WEST MIDLANDS BRANCH, BUTTERFLY CONSERVATION

Obituary – Bob Bishop

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of one of our Branch Committee members, Bob Bishop.

Bob had been a long-term member of the Branch and regularly attended field trips and Branch meetings, but it was not until 2 years ago when he had taken early retirement from his duties as a Conservation Officer with Severn Trent that he agreed to serve on the Committee and at the same time took on the transect walk at Brotheridge Green.

His primary wildlife interest was in birds and for many years he was Co-Leader of the Worcester and Malvern RSPB Group and latterly he was also Secretary of the Worcestershire Naturalists Club. His knowledge of wildlife was extremely wide ranging, apart from his professional expertise in riverine habitats he had an extensive knowledge of all aspects of bird life, butterflies and moths and more recently plants.

He will be sadly missed; a congenial companion on field trips always ready to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others and a stalwart Committee Member willingly doing any job that was asked of him. We are grateful for his contribution to conservation and glad to have had the privilege of knowing him and working with him.
