NEWSLETTER No. 9 -  Summer 1983

WEST MIDLANDS BRANCH, BUTTERFLY CONSERVATION

1983 Reserves Appeal

To give the Appeal a good start and to give members a chance of making a contribution we have decided to launch a SPONSORED BUTTERFLY COUNT. The idea is to try to see the maximum number of different species of butterfly during the period July 24th - August 7th and to obtain sponsorship at so much per species. Sponsorship forms are included with this newsletter. While this idea may appeal most to our junior members we hope that the maximum number possible will be able to take part. Why not make it a family project? A prize of an autographed copy of Robert Goodden's "British Butterflies: a Field Guide" will be given to the member who raises the most money (or alternatively a copy of Jack Green's "Guide to the Butterflies of Worcestershire" - whichever you prefer). Remember it's the number of species seen that counts. For anyone unable to undertake their own count but who would still like to take part please consider sponsoring our Chairman, Ron Hatton. Forms can be sent to Ron at 45, Delabere Road, Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham, Gloucs. All monies should be sent to the Treasurer at 58, North Street, Stoke, Coventry marking your envelope "Reserves Appeal" by the end of August. Please try to help if you can.

Another fundraising venture has been launched by Keith Bowerman who has started collecting used postage stamps on the Branch's behalf. This really is something that everyone can take part in and potentially should bring in a considerable income - so let's see those stamps come flooding in! Keith's address is 84, Reddicap Hill, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. Thanks to Keith for offering his services.
